BC Announces its 31 Suppliers for Recreational Marijuana

Recreational weed has been legalized in Canada — it's almost old news by now. Announced today though, is relative news that many have been waiting for; 31 marijuana suppliers have been chosen to supply BC its exclusive recreational marijuana. The BC Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB) made the announcement today.

Of the 31 announced, 12 are BC based and include giants such as Tilray and Whistler Medical Marijuana Corp. Other giants on the list include Canopy Growth Corp. and Aurora.

The producers have signed memorandums of understanding (MoU) with the LDB that they will provide 150 different strains for wholesale distribution. They must provide different quality ranges too varying from value to ultra-premium.

“The volume, variety, and quality of our product assortment speak to the LDB’s commitment to working towards eliminating the illicit market,” said LDB CEO Blain Lawson in a news release.

The aim of the LDB was to develop a wide range of assorted quality product coming in from as many licensed producers as possible ensuring diversity and choice. It signed as many MoU's with as many of the producers that responded to the LDB’s request-for-information process.
