Aurora Cannabis to Provide Insurance Coverage for Medical Cannabis

Aurora Cannabis employee benefits plan

Aurora Cannabis is making a name for itself in more ways than one. Not only is the company recognized as a leading Canadian cannabis producer, but it is also a company known to treat their employees fairly. The latest instance of this came today, when the Aurora Cannabis employee benefits plan was released to the public.

Aurora Cannabis Employee Benefits Plan | Covering Medical Cannabis

It's not new that in Canada insurers are looking to cover the costs of medical marijuana. This is because there has been an increase in the "recognition of cannabis-based therapies," says Debra Wilson, Aurora's senior VP of human resources.

Now, Aurora takes pride in being a company that fights for the availability of medicinal cannabis. Wilson even said Aurora is striving to become the "employer of choice" in the Canadian cannabis industry.

So, with insurers looking to cover medical cannabis, due to the increase in recognition, it was only a matter of time before Aurora would include medical marijuana in the Aurora Cannabis employee benefits plan.

It's a Corporate Move

Wilson and Jonathan Zaid, the company's director of advocacy and corporate social responsibility, know that covering employee medical cannabis is a smart business move. Not only does it put Aurora ahead in the industry, but it also puts the company in the good books of the general public.

According to Wilson, covering medical cannabis 'reflects' on Aurora's "position as one of the leading advocates for the availability of medical cannabis, as well as employee health and wellness."

Zaid says he believes that covering medical cannabis is the right thing to do.

When Will the Plan Go into Effect?

The new Aurora Cannabis employee benefits plan will take effect on Wednesday, August 1st.
