BC Liquor Distribution Selling Cannabis: LDB Goes Green

The LDB has just made agreements with 31 licensed cannabis producers to secure a steady retail supply come October 17th. The announcement was made yesterday, and the Attorney General states that it will be the province's only legal wholesaler of non-medicinal cannabis.

This new memorandum of understanding seeks to create an "extensive and competitive wholesale product assortment."

In the beginning, the LDB hopes to offer more than 150 strains of recreational marijuana of all different value ranges. Brian Lawson, LDB's GM, told CBC news:

"We are thrilled to be reaching this significant milestone in developing a competitive wholesale assortment for non-medical cannabis [...] The volume, variety and quality of our product assortment speak to the LDB's commitment to work towards eliminating the illicit market."

The private retailers within the province will have the option of accessing the cannabis online.

First BC Cannabis Store: Kamloops

The ministry has also been working on getting its first space for the first BC cannabis store. The location? Just three hours north-east of Vancouver in Kamloops, BC.

The first store is set to open in Kamloops' Columbia Place Shopping Centre. Kamloops Mayor, Ken Christian, told CBC that his city is in full support of the new venture by LDB.

These proposals still need to get legal city approval, but the mayor is on board. The new store will be staffed with cannabis consultants, and all employees will receive extensive cannabis safety training. These employees will be equipped to provide customers with feedback on the responsible and safe use of cannabis products recreationally.

The LBD is currently looking at other municipalities to expand its store base once the first one is deemed a success.
