Is there cannabis treatment for women's health? Kalytera Therapeutics, Inc. (TSXV:KALY) earlier today announced that it has partnered with Beetlebung Pharma, Ltd. Beetlebung has given Kalytera an option to purchase all rights to Beetlebung's medical cannabis products for the treatment of both dermatologic diseases and women's health.

Kalytera stated that the agreement gives it an option to license proprietary medical cannabis formulations from Beetlebung. These cannabis formulations can be brought to market in states that have already approved cannabis for medical purposes.

This partnership will see Kalytera combine its expertise in clinical pharmaceutical development with Beetlebung's proprietary cannabis technology. Kalytera is slowly becoming a leading company in the development and commercialization of cannabinoid pharmaceuticals, while the Isreali-based Beetlebung is a world-class research company known for the development of products in cannabinoid and cannabis-based therapeutics

Robert Farrell, President and CEO of Kalytera in a statement mentioned that "Research has demonstrated that medical cannabis possesses extraordinary therapeutic potential. However, many of the medical cannabis products currently available have not been shown to be safe and effective in the treatment of specific diseases. There have been few, if any, clinical trials to date conducted in compliance with GCP standards supporting the safety and efficacy of these products. Kalytera and BPL intend to address these issues and bring to market proprietary medical cannabis formulations for the treatment of dermatologic diseases and women's health that will meet the standards of the pharmaceutical industry."

The main purpose of the partnership is to fast-track the development and commercialization of efficacious and low-cost medical cannabis products in countries like Australia, Canada, Germany, and Israel, where access to medical cannabis is legal.

The partnership will see the two companies work on developing a novel cannabinoid-based compound to be used in treating acute and chronic pains. Kalytera stated that it has already filed patents for these compounds in the US and other countries. The patent, if approved, will cover all compounds invented by Beetlebung for dermatologic diseases and women's health. After the patents have been approved, Kalytera has the option to acquire them from Beetlebung.
