Cannabix Technologies Not a Fan of Roadside Saliva Tests—Here’s Why

Cannabix Technologies against saliva testing

Cannabix Technologies against saliva testing: Last month, Bill C-46 was passed. Now, as part of it, the Justice Department in Canada has given the OK for roadside saliva tests, which will check for traces of THC. But not everyone is on board with this—and Cannabix Technologies is one of them.

Cannabix Technologies Against Saliva Testing

Yesterday, Cannabix Technologies posted a statement regarding the go-ahead for roadside saliva tests in Canada.

Essentially, the Vancouver-based company said that the Canadian government has hinted for a while about roadside saliva tests, and how they will be used in October (the month recreational cannabis is legalized). However, according to the company, this isn't the best option.

According to the company, saliva testing is "not a new technology," and there are "well-documented issues" with it. For instance, its inability to "operate in cold weather conditions," and "effectively identify impaired individuals."

Other Problems Documented by Cannabix:

  • Scientific validity
  • Scientific accuracy
  • "Infringement on civil liberties"

So Why the Move to Roadside Saliva Testing?

Well, in the statement posted yesterday, Cannabix Technologies said the Canadian government has done this because, in their mind, "no court accepted breath test device" is on the market right now to test for cannabis use—but this is where Cannabix comes in.

The BC company said that their "chief objective" is to create a breathalyzer. They believe that a THC breathalyzer is "the future for law enforcement," as well as "workplace testing." Why? Because it's "less invasive."

The Cannabix Technologies Stock (CSE:BLO)

The market seems to have mixed reactions. The BLO stock did not start the day well, opening at $1.05 and hitting a low of $1.02.

But at press time, the BLO stock is up more than 10%. According to Google Finance, Cannabix Technologies is trading at $1.67, which puts the stock up 11.33%.

The Takeaway

Do you agree with what the company said? Should the government not have authorized roadside saliva tests? Is a THC breathalyzer the way to go?
