Synthetic Marijuana is Taking Over Florida Prisons

K2 synthetic marijuana: Many inmates have died in the state of Florida due to an extremely dangerous synthetic marijuana. There have been four deaths accounted for by the Medical Examiner's Office (MEO) for the state's 14th Judicial District.

These four deaths occurred this past year and were a result of the inmates smoking the synthetic marijuana named K2.

The K2 that the guards at the prison confiscated has been laced with dangerous chemicals. Majors in the prison told the local media that what the inmates think they are smoking is often not what they are actually smoking.

Some of the contraband confiscated has been made in-house by some of the correctional facility inmates.

The Department of Corrections (DOC) believe that some of the spice circulating around the facilities may be made by the inmates soaking up insecticides sprayed by the pest control companies.  They are currently looking into the roach spray used, but their labs don't have a way to test it just yet.

Zombie Side Effects

Officials have studied the cell video surveillance of the inmates who have died from smoking the K2 and have said it's like watching a zombie. The first reaction is to become disoriented and unable to keep one's balance. After this, the inmates lost consciousness. Some inmates then choked on their own vomit, suffered from seizures that couldn't be controlled, or went into cardiac arrest.

The DOC press secretary, Partick Manderfield, said:

"Synthetic drugs are relatively cheap, and inmates see it as a profitable form of contraband. Recipes are readily available online, and the Department has intercepted homemade versions of it made with household chemicals through inmate mail."

The synthetic drugs are also being smuggled in by families visiting or even by other inmates. Last year, there was nearly 60,000 grams of synthetic cannabis confiscated in Florida.
