Massachusetts Approves Recreational Cannabis

Massachusetts recreational cannabis

Massachusetts recreational cannabis: Massachusetts has just taken some big steps in legalizing recreational cannabis. Just recently, Vermont and Oklahoma have jumped on the marijuana wagon, and it seems that the land of Tom Brady is following behind them in the cannabis revolution.

Massachusetts Recreational Cannabis License Granted

On Monday, the first cannabis retail dispensary was approved by the Massachusetts' Cannabis Control Commission.

The application was put in by Cultivate Holdings, LLC. Cultivate currently sells medical marijuana, but has since wanted to expand into the recreational sector, more specifically the Massachusetts recreational market.

Sam Barber, Cultivate Holding's president, told the Boston Globe:

"We're very excited to be the first. We all feel [the recreational cannabis industry] is going to be tremendous for the Commonwealth — the amount of jobs that this is going to create for the local community, especially our town, and the amount of tax revenue is going to be a huge help."

Recreational marijuana was supposed to hit shelves within the state months ago, but it hit its fair share of bumps. It was approved via ballot back in November of 2016, and lawmakers anticipated a rollout on July 1st of this year.

Under the state's cannabis laws, all marijuana needs to be tested independently before it can hit the shelves. Currently, there is only one lab within the whole state that has an application in the approval process.

Cannabis On The Shelves

While there has yet to be any labs approved at this time, recreational cannabis sales are not far off.

Massachusetts residents have been waiting a while for this, but the necessary steps are being taken. With Cultivate, it seems the market is a few weeks out from seeing marijuana on the shelves. It seems regulators want to make sure everything will run smoothly before they allow cannabis to hit the shelves.
