MedMen Stock Slides After Company is Parodied By South Park

MedMen stock

MedMen stock is down over 2% today after MedMen Enterprises (CSE:MMEN) (OTCQX:MMNFF) and its owners were parodied on Wednesday's episode of South Park on Comedy Central.

MedMen Stock Down Following Fictional Appearance

MedMen Enterprises was the butt of the joke on the most recent episode of South Park, as the long-running animated comedy continued its marijuana farming story arc. As sales start to drop for Randy Marsh's fictional cannabis business 'Tegridy Farms' he decides to investigate, only to discover that consumers are growing their own pot at home. “When you grow your own pot, you’re taking weed out of my children’s mouths,” Marsh says, before seeking help from the local authorities.

When the authorities refuse to help, two individuals who identify themselves as MedMen representatives arrive at Tegridy Farms. “We represent a billion-dollar marijuana company. You seem to be fighting the same fight we are. We just want to help you. Ever heard of MedMen?” one of the characters says, adding that they are concerned about babies drowning in irrigation. Stan agrees to help MedMen put an end to homegrown weed in the town. MedMen stock is down to $2.01 following the company's fictional appearance at Tegridy Farms.

MedMen Stock on the Slide in Last 12-Months

The joke is in reference to the company's role in a New York-based medical cannabis association that urged Governor Andrew Cuomo to remove a part of the state's proposed cannabis legislation, which would allow for homegrown cultivation, which he followed through on. While the actual policy statement focused on concerns that homegrown cannabis could contain dangerous contaminants, there was no mention of drowning babies.

MedMen stock has been on the slide for most of the last 12 months, despite making some positive expansions in states such as Florida and Nevada, which included the opening of several new stores and the launch of a home delivery service.

MedMen Enterprises was further targetted in the episode after another character, Towlie, says "MedMen? But those guys are posers." The company has not responded to the lampooning. It could be argued that being targetted by the Emmy-winning comedy, which is now in its 23rd season, is quite the honor; however, investors clearly felt the burn of the jokes as seen by the fall in MedMen stock this week.
