Oklahoma Doctors Banned Sales of Smokeable Medical Marijuana

Oklahoma doctors ban smokeable medical marijuana: Two weeks ago, Oklahoma voters legalized the use of medical marijuana. State Question 788 received 56% 'Yes' votes, which legalized medical cannabis without restrictions.

Patients still would have to meet the qualifying conditions in order to receive the medical marijuana, but now it seems Oklahoma doctors and the Health Board have decided to step in.

State Question 788 is unique in the sense that it leaves complete control of medical marijuana legislation for physicians and patients. The opposition is working for tighter controls and restrictions on the medical marijuana program, which starts with a ban on smokeable marijuana.

The Oklahoma State Medical Association (OSMA) has spearheaded this new effort to block smokeable marijuana from being used in medical practice. Jean Hausheer, president of the OSMA is calling on the ban of smokeable cannabis. She feels it's not an option, but a demand.

The Medical Association also has other 'demands,' and she told the Associated Press that they will require a pharmacist to be present at every dispensary that gives out medical marijuana.

If they are going to deem it as medical, the association wants to make sure it has 'medical' regulations.

Bye-Bye Joints

The OSMA issued three proposals at a press conference earlier this week, and two of the three were accepted. They will not be banning the sale of smokeable leaves and flowers to cannabis patients. Also, a pharmacist must be present at all dispensaries.

However, patients are still allowed to grow their own plants at home to smoke. The board plans to continue to review the rules over the next coming months and could revise the new ban if they see fit. However, it will take time to see any positive or negative change in these new laws.
