Surterra Wellness Wants to Bring Medical Marijuana to Amelia Courthouse, Virginia

Georgia-based cannabis company, Surterra Wellness, is joining the list of similar firms hoping to open a Medical Marijuana dispensary in Amelia Courthouse, Virginia.

It joins eight other marijuana companies who also applied to the Virginia Board of Pharmacy, to become the primary marijuana provider for the Health Service Area. The company has also made applications for Waynesboro and Gainsville.

Cannabis in Virginia is illegal except for patients who have a doctor's recommendation for CBD oil or THC-A oil. In cases of possession for those substances, then an affirmative defense is accepted.

Who is Surterra Wellness?

The company has 10 medical marijuana dispensaries and three distribution centers in Florida, along with over 300,000 square feet of cannabis cultivation space. Surterra received in it's latest investment round a significant $65 million USD. This will allow Surterra to expand its cultivation space in Florida, as well as pursue partnerships with premier cannabis brands. The application to Virginia suggests a further expansion to another US state.

On the roadmap, the company also plans to increase product development and undertake clinical trials on the use of cannabinoid therapies to treat anxiety, pain, and PTSD.

Surterra in Virginia

Surterra Wellness is the only company out of the eight applicants in the region who is disclosing plans.

Currently, the company is leasing a warehouse on the Old River Drive in Amelia. It is in this warehouse that Surterra will grow and sell their products if selected by the Virginia Board of Pharmacy, which is set to make its decision in late Fall.
