Cannabis in Latin America: Expocannabiz Conference to Be Hosted in Cartagena, Colombia

Cannabis in Latin America Expocannabiz Conference

The third edition of the ExpoCannaBiz Business Conference is returning to Cartegena, Colombia, from July 6 to July 8, 2022. The event is set to gather some of the most prominent members of the cannabis industry worldwide. Previously held at the Cartegena de Indias Convention Center, this event is one of the most important professional events in this budding sector. The Expocannabiz conference has become a vital touchpoint for a host of industries outside of cannabis as well, including pharmaceuticals, textile, food, and agricultural sectors.

Julian Tobar, the CEO of Expocannabiz, explained, “The Expocannabiz Business Conference is well established as a place of convergence, where suppliers meet potential buyers or distributors, where investors find smart businesses to invest in, where the scientific community can share advancements with the industry. We can provide an important space for government officials to share updates on regulations and drug policy because things change quickly when it comes to cannabis.”

The keynote speech for this year’s conference will be delivered by “Shark Tank’s” Kevin Harrington, inventor of the “infomercial.” Harrington is a fitting keynote speaker, as the conference will be focusing on innovation and entrepreneurship this year. Harrington will also be the judge for the third edition of the ExpoCannaBiz pitch award, which offers select attendees an opportunity to pitch their investment opportunities to come away with capital investments.

The program also includes critical topics affecting the development of the cannabis industry, such as cultivation, legislation, industrial hemp, international markets, foreign trade, investment, marketing, and medicinal use. Cutting-edge topics such as new technologies, automation, sustainable or “green business,” psychedelics, and so on will also be addressed.

Renowned Cannabis researchers Mara Gordon and Cristina Sanchez will attend the conference to highlight the advancements in medicinal cannabis for the treatment of cancers and other pathologies. Also in attendance will be Efrain Lopez, an expert lawyer specializing in the legal aspects of production and regulation of cannabis, who was part of the drafting of Decree 811 of 2021, a decree to legalize the import of dry flower from Colombia.

Tobar concluded by saying, “We know that if the government approves the opening of the appropriate channels for the export of raw materials and derived products, significant economic growth- like what we have seen with coffee or oil – follow. Cannabis could become the largest export product in the country’s GDP.”
